Localizing the Global Fight Inequality Campaign

Empowering women isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do.
Barack Obama

We are part of a coalition of organizations and like-minded individuals, facilitated by the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD), amplifying the call for a more equal and egalitarian society.

Our mission is crystal clear: to provide women and girls with the platforms they need to learn, lead, and achieve economic success. Rooted in grassroots advocacy, we refuse to remain silent in the face of injustices that infringe upon the rights of women and girls. Instead, we are committed to speaking up, raising awareness, and advocating for change.

Globally, the statistics are glaring: women are significantly underrepresented in leadership and governance. Despite comprising over 52% of Zimbabwe’s population, women occupy only 35% of leadership positions. This disparity compels us to work tirelessly towards achieving gender parity across all sectors.

Why does gender parity matter? Because when women’s voices are heard and their perspectives represented, the interests and values of females are better reflected at the political level. At SWET, we are not just advocating for equality; we are actively working to create opportunities for women to thrive in leadership roles and make their mark on the world.

But our efforts do not end there. We recognize that economic empowerment is crucial to unlocking the full potential of women and girls. Globally, women face barriers such as unpaid domestic labor, limited access to land ownership, job discrimination, and unequal pay. At SWET, we are committed to dismantling these barriers and equipping women with the tools they need to succeed.

Through a combination of trainings, awareness-raising initiatives, and advocacy efforts, we are fighting against systems and norms that discriminate against women and girls. In February, we united with other organizations sharing our vision to combat inequalities in our homes, communities, and society at large.

Together, we are championing the cause of gender equality, striving to create a more inclusive and equitable Zimbabwe for all. Our journey at SWET is fueled by passion, determination, and a belief in the power of collective action. As we continue to push for progress, we invite you to join us in our mission to empower women, shape futures, and build a brighter tomorrow for generations to come.
