Strengthening Partnerships and Advancing Our Impact

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much
Helen Keller

At Sprout Women Empowerment Trust (SWET), we believe in the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change. This International Women’s Day, we joined forces with Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) to combat gendered corruption at the grassroots level and empower women in our communities.

As the leading anti-corruption organization in Zimbabwe, TIZ is dedicated to empowering citizens and promoting accountability in the fight against corruption. Through direct community engagement and strategic partnerships, TIZ works tirelessly to address the root causes of corruption and promote transparency and integrity.

In our collaboration with TIZ, SWET played a crucial role in the development of Anti-Corruption Policies incorporating gender perspectives. With training provided by TIZ, our team learned how to craft policies that not only address traditional forms of corruption but also cater to gender-specific issues such as sextortion. Additionally, we explored the importance of gender-sensitive whistleblowing mechanisms to ensure the safety and empowerment of women who speak out against corruption.

Building on this foundation, SWET launched the ‘Women Empowerment Circles’ Programme in the Chitungwiza Community. This initiative, which coincided with Women’s Month, provided a platform for women to come together, share their experiences, and support one another in breaking the cycle of corruption and discrimination. By empowering women through education, advocacy, and collective action, we are laying the groundwork for a more equitable and sustainable future.

The official launch of the programme took place on International Women’s Day under the theme ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow #BreakTheBias’. This event served as a rallying cry for gender equality and a reminder of the urgent need to challenge biases and stereotypes that perpetuate inequality.

As we reflect on this momentous occasion, we are reminded of the importance of building partnerships and increasing our reach in areas of operation. By collaborating with like-minded organizations such as TIZ, we can amplify our impact and create lasting change in the lives of women and communities.

Moving forward, SWET remains committed to advancing gender equality, combating corruption, and empowering women to realize their full potential. Together, let us continue to build partnerships, break barriers, and create a world where all women and girls can thrive.
